Hopewell Riverwalk

From Virginia.wiki
A short, waterside walk with views across the Appomattox River, Hopewell Riverwalk follows the shoreline from City Park in Hopewell, Virginia. The city describes the boardwalk as 2,600 feet long; the park also has a playground, fishing pier, pavilion and parking. Check the city’s facility page before visiting for current hours and park rules.[1]

What to expect

The Riverwalk is a wooden boardwalk along the Appomattox River, with views toward historic City Point. It is a compact outing rather than a long-distance hike, and can be paired with time at City Park.[2]

The city lists the Riverwalk among Hopewell’s trails and greenways. It is also part of the wider Appomattox River Trail system, a planned regional greenway and blueway along the river.[3][4]

At City Park

The Riverwalk is accessed from City Park at 205 Appomattox Street. The city lists a nature-inspired playground, sandy beach area, covered pavilion, fishing pier, off-street parking and portable restrooms at the park. Amenities and conditions can change, so confirm details with the city before setting out.[5]

Fishing is allowed only in designated areas. The city also asks visitors to keep pets leashed, clean up after them, dismount bicycles on the walkway, and stay out of the water from the Riverwalk. Glass bottles, balloons and alcohol are not allowed in the park.[6]

Hours and planning

The city lists the facility as open from dawn to dusk, year-round. Because access and hours may be affected by maintenance or other conditions, check the official facility listing before travel. The posted address is 205 Appomattox Street, Hopewell, VA 23860.[7]

The Appomattox River Trail

The Riverwalk is one part of the regional Appomattox River Trail and Park System. Friends of the Lower Appomattox River describes the system as a 25-mile greenway and blueway extending from Brasfield Dam to the river’s confluence with the James. Its interactive map can help visitors identify other riverfront parks and access points.[8]

For additional local trail options, see the city’s current Hopewell trails and greenways listing. Nearby history and riverfront destinations include Petersburg, Virginia and Appomattox River Trail.[9]
