Brunswick Byways Visitor Center

From Virginia.wiki

The Brunswick Byways Visitor Center is a practical first stop for exploring Brunswick County, Virginia. Located on Christanna Highway south of Lawrenceville, Virginia, it offers exhibits, maps and brochures, with information on local byways, history and attractions. Check current hours before setting out, especially around holidays.[1]

What to expect

The center interprets Brunswick County’s heritage and landscape, including Native American heritage, colonial-era frontier history, Civil War history, early American religious history, natural resources and agriculture. Its displays include graphics, artifact cases, hands-on exhibits and a short informational film. Brochures and maps can help visitors plan stops around the county.[2]

Byways and trip planning

The center highlights two routes: Christanna Highway (Route 46) and the Lake Gaston Byway (Routes 903 and 626).[3] Virginia defines a byway as a road designated for its aesthetic or cultural value and its connection to historic, natural or recreational significance.[4]

For broader trip ideas, the county’s tourism site highlights places such as Lake Gaston, the Tobacco Heritage Trail, the Meherrin River, Fort Christanna Historical Site and the James Solomon Russell–Saint Paul’s College Museum and Archives.[5]

Location and access

The visitor center is at 13516 Christanna Highway, Lawrenceville, VA 23868. The Virginia Tourism Corporation listing places it on Route 46 about three miles south of U.S. Route 58 and Lawrenceville, and about ten miles south of Interstate 85.[6]

Hours and contact

The published schedule lists weekday hours of 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday hours of 9 a.m.–1 p.m.; the listing also notes that hours may vary and the center closes on major holidays. These details can change, so confirm before visiting.[7]

Call the center at (434) 848-2728 to check visitor information. The county’s official site also directs visitors to contact the center at that number.[8]
